Constitution

Preamble

The Student Government Association (SGA) is part of the university’s commitment to shared governance. We exist to provide the student body an official organization that represents their needs. We solicit input from students regarding issues or suggestions they may have and investigate and take appropriate action. Furthermore, we provide a platform through which student opinions may be expressed. We encourage the development of responsible student participation in the overall policy and decision-making processes of the university community, foster an awareness of the students’ role in the academic community, and enhance the quality and scope of education at the institution. Therefore, as the voice of the student body, we do ordain and establish this Constitution for the Student Government Association. We further recognize the Student Government Association as the official student governing body of the University of HoustonVictoria (UHV). SGA will achieve these goals by following Robert’s Rules of Order for parliamentary procedure while maintaining the highest ethical standards. We do hereby establish and adopt this constitution.
