Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program

This knowledge base and experience encompasses the necessary counseling skills to work in the community agency, clinical mental health settings and in a variety of other mental health settings such as agencies, private practice, hospitals, VA centers, and integrated health centers. The master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling is a 60 credit hour program designed to provide knowledge and skills in the area of counseling and a program of courses that satisfies course requirements for the Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the State of Texas. The 60 hour Clinical Mental Health degree will commence in Fall 2014 to meet CACREP accreditation standards and the State of Texas licensure requirements.

The Clinical Mental Health Counseling plan of study prepares students for counseling positions in various community agencies such as mental health centers, private counseling agencies, drug abuse centers, centers for counseling the elderly, child protective services, family counseling centers, business and industry. The Clinical Mental Health Counseling program consists of 20 courses, 57 credit hours and 3 hours of electives, all within the professional counseling program.
