30 semester hour program
If you love language, reading, and teaching, then you’re in the right place. Our fully online master’s in curriculum and instruction with a literacy concentration is built to give you the skillset you need to assist and assess students requiring extra reading and writing help.
The program offers two degree options: the MEd in curriculum and instruction, reading specialist, and the MEd in curriculum and instruction, literacy studies. The Reading Specialist Certification is also offered.
Before you get started, you’ll need
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree
- The prerequisites required by the education college’s admissions policy
- Appropriate teaching or related experience
- Access to a computer, webcam, and high-speed Internet as well as basic computer and word-processing skills
Degrees You Can Earn
MEd Curriculum & Instruction, Literacy Studies: You’ll take core curriculum and instruction classes in addition to classes in literacy theory and practice. You may choose a thesis or non-thesis option.
Other Degree Options
MEd Curriculum & Instruction, Literacy Studies, Reading Specialist: You’ll take core curriculum and instruction classes in addition to classes in literacy theory and practice. The reading specialist master’s places special emphasis on teaching effective strategies for assisting children who struggle with reading and requires students to become reading specialist certified.

Well, where would you like to go? Teachers are wanted all over the state of Texas in public and private schools. A master’s degree in reading and literacy can help you teach children how to understand written words and face the literacy challenges in today’s schools. In addition to honing your skills as an elementary or secondary teacher, you could be a literacy coach, reading specialist working in public schools or in adult literacy programs.
