MS Biomedical Sciences – Professional Science

Admission Criteria

  • Approved University Admission to Graduate Studies
  • Official Transcripts (must include Undergraduate degree)
  • 1 – 2 page Essay for Admission to Graduate Biomedical Sciences program
  • Cumulative GPA >3.0 (on a 4.0 scale)
  • GRE verbal >144
  • GRE quantitative >149
  • BIOL 2420 Elementary Microbiology (with Laboratory)
  • BIOL 4413 (Genetics w/Lab)
  • 8 hours of Organic Chemistry w/Lab
  • 8 hours of College Physics w/Lab
  • 3 hours of Statistics (MATH 3391 or equivalent)
  • Official GRE Data (or transcript with graduate-level degree or higher)
  • Minimum Graduate Index score of 980 or higher
  • *Formal Admission to the Biomedical Sciences Program

Students should submit official transcripts and GRE scores to the Office of Admissions. Program specific requirements such as essays, letter of recommendation, resumes, and/or writing samples should be submitted directly to Arts and Sciences.

Core – 24 semester hours

  • BIMS 6311 Biochemistry
  • BIMS 6313 Cell & Molecular
  • BIMS 6321 Pharmacology and Toxicology
  • BIMS 6315 Physiology
  • BIMS 6312 Research Methods in Science
  • BIMS 6314 Scientific Communications
  • BIMS 6316 Biostatistics
  • BIMS 6317 Bio Ethics

Students then have the option to select one of three tracks to complete this Masters of Science degree:

  • Human Cardiovascular: Core courses plus 12 (including internship or research) additional hours.
  • Molecular: Core courses plus 12 (including internship or research) additional hours.
  • Bioinformatics & Genomics: Core courses plus 12 (including internship or research) additional hours.

Human Cardiovascular Track:

24 core credit hours (above) plus 12 concentration credit hours (including 6 hours of internship or research) for a total of 36 credit hours for the degree.

  • BIMS 6318 Integrative Human Cardiovascular Control
  • BIMS 6319 Neuro Cardiovascular (Pre-req:  BIMS 6318 Integrative Human Cardiovascular Control)

 

  • BIMS 6305 Masters Professional Science Internship or
  • BIMS 6399 Faculty-Guided Research/Thesis (Permission of the graduate director needed)

Molecular Track:

24 core credit hours (above) plus 12 concentration credit hours (including 6 hours of internship or research) for a total of 36 credit hours for the degree.

  • BIMS 6332 Microbial Metabolism
  • BIMS 6322 Biochemical and Molecular Genetics

 

  • BIMS 6305 Masters Professional Science Internship or
  • BIMS 6399 Faculty-Guided Research/Thesis (Permission of the graduate director needed)

Bioinformatics & Genomics Track:

24 core credit hours (above) plus 12 concentration credit hours (including 6 hours of internship) for a total of 36 credit hours for the degree.
