Guidance for Online Learning for This Semester from UHV Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Chance Glenn

Hello UHV Family,

Welcome back from our long spring break!

Students – While you have been on the extended break, the faculty and staff have been working diligently to prepare for the switch to our virtual environment.  We realize that some of you may not be accustomed to taking classes online and may be experiencing a bit of anxiety with this transition, yet we want you to know that we will do everything we can to help you survive and thrive for the rest of the semester! Thus, we will be converting all of our services to an online format in order to assist you. Step one is to let us know how prepared you are for this transition, so please complete this important survey: Student Technology Survey.

Next, go to Blackboard and check into your courses.

Blackboard/Online Resources

In order to logon to Blackboard:

- Go to UHV eLearning. This is our Blackboard Support site. Click the Log into Learn 9 link and then type your Username and Password (same password that you use for all UHV applications).

- After login, click the UHV Online Student Orientation course name to enter the course and begin the orientation.

If you need help with Blackboard (finding your grades, submitting an assignment, taking a test, posting a discussion, etc.), please contact the Instructional Technology Support staff in your school.  If you need assistance outside of normal business hours, please complete the Support Request Form (note that this form is also located in each of your Blackboard courses). If you need help learning to be a more effective online learner, please check out the resources in the UHV Orientation to Online Learning course in your Blackboard course list. This is a free course and available to you when you log into Blackboard.

If you have any trouble at all, please remember that we have set up a Student Success Help Desk to provide immediate assistance from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. If you are struggling with any of these fast-moving changes or if you have questions about any of our services or they would like to make a virtual appointment with any of our staff, please contact Heather Crow or Briana Vega. When you contact us, please include your name, student ID number, a detailed message of what you need and your contact information.

Faculty – Thank you very much for your fast and intensive work in getting these classes set up. While most of you have taught online before, I realize that for some of you this will be a new experience. For those classes that were fully face to face before now, please make sure to send each student an email with guidelines for your particular course. Above all, make sure to maintain close contact with your students.

Faculty and Students alike – Please know that our instructional support team, both in the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence (Bev Hoerig) and in your individual schools (Kristy Holly for Arts & Sciences, Mary Borden for the School of Business Administration and Harry Bashaw for the School of Education, Health Professions & Human Development), is here ready to help you throughout the semester. UHV was a pioneer in online education and we have the staff with the skills to help you thrive in this environment.

Staff – Thank you for keeping us all up and running. You provide essential support to our students and many of them come to you for guidance. If a student comes to you with a question you aren’t sure how to answer, please refer them to the proper department for assistance.
