A Message From the President

Hello to all the UHV Jaguars, past and present, and all those who have supported UHV throughout the years.

Fifty years is a momentous milestone for our university, and we are excited to have the opportunity to share our anniversary with you. Ever since our university began in 1973 as a teaching center under the University of Houston, our institution has been fortunate to have the support of so many in this community and this region.

UHV Donors: 50 years of generosity and growth

For the past 50 years, the University of Houston-Victoria has been part of the Victoria community. During that time, the university has had the opportunity to partner with many organizations and leave a lasting impact on the communities we serve, both in the Crossroads and in the Greater Houston area. But our reach would have been greatly limited were it not for all those individuals, organizations and nonprofits that chose to invest in the university and support higher education in our region.

Global Citizens and UHV

For decades, UHV International Programs has welcomed students from all over the world to receive an education from our amazing faculty and join our ever-growing family of alumni. Dozens of countries are represented at UHV with degree-seeking students as well as students from study abroad and exchange programs.

Paul Carlson: 50 Years of Making a Difference

In another timeline in an alternate universe, Paul Carlson might have spent decades tending to acres of farmland on the East Coast instead of preparing educators for the classroom.

It might be surprising for those who have known Carlson to imagine him doing anything not related to teaching or community service. But for the revered educator who grew up on a farm, higher education wasn’t an option in his mind until he was a teen and his father asked him an important question: What do you want to do with your life?

UHV Legacies: The story of three families of UHV alumni

Across the region, and even the nation and around the world, siblings, parents, grandparents, sons and daughters have chosen to make UHV a part of their lives. Now, as UHV celebrates its 50th anniversary, some of the university’s alumni are sharing how UHV became part of their family legacy.

The Path We Take

If you would have asked Karen Locher after she graduated high school what she thought she would be doing in the year 2023, chances are she would not have said leading a library.

Notable UHV Alumni

There are more than 23,000 UHV alumni around the world, each working in a variety of fields and driven to be the best they can be. At every commencement ceremony, hundreds of students are welcomed into the UHV Alumni Association. Here are just a few of our notable UHV alumni.

The University of Houston-Victoria, located in the heart of the Coastal Bend region since 1973 in Victoria, Texas, offers courses leading to more than 50 academic programs in the schools of Arts & Sciences; Business Administration; and Education, Health Professions & Human Development. UHV provides face-to-face classes at its Victoria campus, as well as an instructional site in Katy, Texas, and online classes that students can take from anywhere. UHV supports the American Association of State Colleges and Universities Opportunities for All initiative to increase awareness about state colleges and universities and the important role they have in providing a high-quality and accessible education to an increasingly diverse student population, as well as contributing to regional and state economic development.
